Templars Court is situated in the village of Temple Sowerby, which is located at the foot of the fells halfway between Penrith and Appleby. The village boasts the nickname "Queen of Westmorland Villages", although its actual name came from the Knights Templar who were granted the Manor of Temple Sowerby in 1228.
The village is set around a traditional green and boasts mid-16th century rubble-and-thatch buildings intermingled with 18th and 19th century buildings. It is also one of the few Westmorland villages retaining a maypole!
Today, this village enjoys a truly rural and tranquil setting as the recently opened A66 by-pass has brought the much needed diversion for the 13,000 vehicles a day that used to pass through the centre of this delightful village.
