Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2009 is the UK’s largest women-only fundraising series. Women of all ages and fitness levels are invited to do something amazing by signing up for the event and joining together to walk, jog or run 5k to raise money to help beat cancer.
This year Race for Life in Carlisle takes place on Sunday 12th July at 11.00am at Sheepmount Stadium. Organisers are encouraging 3700 women to put their best feet forward and help raise £183,330.
Cumbrian Homes’ Director, John Pallister, commented, “We’re delighted and very proud to be sponsoring such a good cause which raises money for vital research. With developments around Carlisle and Penrith, it not only gives us a chance to give something back into the local community, but also to raise our profile generally. Three members of our own staff, Office Manager, Helen Walker and Sales Negotiators, Jill Thompson and Gemma Goring will be taking part and we all hope it’s a great success.”
Nina McGregor, Race for Life Area Event Manager for Carlisle, said: “We’re extremely grateful to Cumbrian Homes for supporting the Carlisle Race for Life event this year.
“Taking part in Race for Life is a great way to support Cancer Research UK’s work and have fun at the same time. Women of all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes join in. They motivate and inspire each other to complete the 5k course. Many simply walk round, chatting and having fun but they all share the wonderful spirit of sisterhood and pride on the day.”
She added: “Despite improvements in treatment, we still have a long way to go. One-in-four people in the UK will die from cancer. With the help of the women of Carlisle, and those who encourage and sponsor their Race for Life efforts, we want to change that. Cancer Research UK believes that research is the key to developing better ways of preventing, detecting and treating cancer.”
Women in Carlisle and across Cumbria are invited to enter Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life at www.raceforlife.org or by calling 0871 641 2282.
