THREE’S NO CROWD AT OTTERS’ HOLT!
When Joan Farley and Glynne Ward began to look for a home in the Lake District in which they could enjoy their retirement, they had very definite ideas on what they wanted - new build, as neither lady wished to get involved in DIY, it had to be North of their previous home in Kirkby Lonsdale and, perhaps, most importantly, it had to have a manageable sized garden and room for their dog, Charley.
The answer came at Cumbrian Homes’ Otters’ Holt development in Culgaith Village where the retired friends reserved from plan a four bedroom semi-detached Mallard design in July 2007, as Glynne explained, “We had a wonderful barn conversion at Kirkby Lonsdale where the large garden, although ideal for Charley, was rapidly becoming too much for us and we wanted to move North to a village location but definitely a new build property as they’re so much easier and cheaper to run and there would be nothing to do to it.”
“We both liked the area and the development and were made very welcome in the village. Cumbrian Homes had a good reputation and the standard of finish in the showhome was exceptional. So, although we looked elsewhere, we reserved the plot on the understanding that we could make some alterations to the internal layout as construction hadn’t started. Interestingly, we’d seen similar homes with other developers that were actually cheaper but with specifications far lower and would have worked out more expensive if we’d paid additional sums to bring them up what was included as standard at Otters’ Holt.”
Given the economic climate, however, their previous home took far longer to sell than they’d imagined and it wasn’t until July 2009 that they were able to complete on the purchase and move into Culgaith.
However, it was then that they really were glad they’d stayed with Cumbrian Homes, as Joan continued, “We’d kept in constant touch with the team at Cumbrian Homes as the house was being built and saw how they were adapting the design to our requirements and they’d said they’d hold the reservation as long as they could, which was very good given the state of the falling market.”
“We eventually sold the other property and moved in and Shaun Frith, the Site Manager, was just fantastic giving us a joiner to put up curtain rails, book shelves and anything else we needed - nothing was a problem to them and when Charley caught his foot in the fence, they were round the next day to cap the fences so it couldn’t happen again.”
Scott Edwards, Sales & Commercial Manager for Cumbrian Homes, added, “Glynne and Joan reserved very early so there was plenty of time to tweak the layout to their requirements and they did have some very good ideas, some of which we’ve actually adopted in other homes. It’s a very friendly community here and we’re glad to have been of help with their move. It was also pleasing to hear that the extent of the extra value included in all our homes had been noticed, this is something not immediately obvious when comparing asking prices alone. It is for this reason we urge all potential buyers to view our properties when considering their options.”
The Otter’s Holt development of three and four bedroom detached and semi-detached homes is situated on the Western edge of Culgaith village and enjoys a tranquil location between Cross Fell and the rugged Pennines to the East and the River Eden which it overlooks to the West.
Prices for homes currently available for sale at Otter’s Holt start from £250,000 for a three bedroom semi-detached Swallow design to £419,000 for a four bedroom detached Kestrel home with further details available from Cumbrian Homes on (01768) 840840 or on the web site at www.cumbrian-homes.co.uk.
