New build houses often get a bad press when it comes to the quality of the internal walls, with many home buyers citing ‘thin walls’1as one of the disadvantages. Cumbrian Homes recognised the issue and wanted something better for their customers – they’re now Britain’s first regional housebuilder to adopt British Gypsum’s new super–strength plasterboard, Gyproc Habito, as standard across their new development, Carleton Manor Park in Penrith.
"We see our role as a developer to bring the latest products and technologies to home buyers,” said Nigel Pallister, Managing Director, Cumbrian Homes."When we came across Gyproc Habito, we knew we wanted it for the future homeowners at Carleton Manor Park and when we demonstrated it at the recent show home opening we knew we’d made the right choice. People were amazed to see the difference between standard plasterboard and Gyproc Habito.”
The new plasterboard is five times stronger than standard plasterboard, making homes feel reassuringly solid compared with standard walls and is a really durable material to work with on a building site. What’s more, when the homeowner moves in, DIY will no longer be a chore – Gyproc Habito can support 15kg of weight from one number 10 woodscrew, with no wall plugs or power tools required.
All the new homes on the Carleton Manor Park development will also be kitted out with Thistle Magnetic Plaster and Silent Floor - more fantastic innovations from British Gypsum. The icing on the cake are the new ‘sound havens’ available within every property on the development – customers will be able to specify British Gypsum’s Silent Wall soundproofing system in any room of the house, perhaps to guarantee a peaceful night’s sleep in the master bedroom, maybe to create a quiet office space within the home, or even to mask noise from loud hobbies.
"At British Gypsum, we’re constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible,” said Paul D’Arcy, Innovation Team Leader. "We’re committed to raising the standard of home building by suppling higher quality products and we’re thrilled that Cumbrian Homes has partnered with us to become the first regional housebuilder to adopt Gyproc Habito, Thistle Magnetic Plaster and Silent Floor as standard. We look forward to supplying more of this type of product to a growing number of housebuilders as house buyers continue to demand higher specifications and Gyproc Habito becomes the obvious choice over standard plasterboard. Developers, contractors and homeowners alike can now experience the internal walls of the future.”
